What You're Actually Paying For
RM80 an hour buys more than the 1.5 hours on screen. Here's the full picture.
Lessons mapped to the 0620 syllabus
Not generic chemistry. Each lesson covers a specific syllabus statement, flags what's Core and what's Supplement, and targets the exact paper it appears on. Your child never wastes a session on content Cambridge won't examine.
Exam technique, taught explicitly
Command words, mark-scheme phrasing, the 6-mark extended-response structure, and the calculation method that survives exam pressure. Understanding chemistry and scoring in 0620 are two different skills. We teach both.
Homework and past papers marked between classes
Tutors set 0620 past-paper questions after every class and mark them against the real mark scheme before the next one. Your child learns which exact words earn the mark, not just whether the answer was "roughly right".
All three assessment components covered
Multiple choice, theory, and practical/alternative-to-practical. Paper 6 alone carries 20% of the grade and most students never revise for it. Our Paper 6 guide shows how we close that gap.
Who This Works For
Year 10 students building early
Starting in Year 10 means one class a week covers the syllabus without panic. Mole calculations and bonding get fixed before they become Year 11 emergencies.
Year 11 students closing gaps
The trial lesson doubles as a diagnostic. The tutor finds the weak topics, builds a plan around the exam date, and drills past papers for the May/June or Oct/Nov series.
Core and Extended, both routes
Core (best grade C) and Extended (targeting A*) need different teaching. Unsure which route fits? Read Core vs Extended, or ask in the trial.
Our students come from international and private schools across Malaysia (KL, Penang, Johor Bahru and everywhere between), plus Malaysian families overseas. Because classes are online, your child gets the best available specialist, not the nearest one.
Not sure if your child needs a tutor yet?
The free 1-hour trial answers that question for free. A specialist teaches a real lesson, then gives you an honest read on your child's level and a realistic target grade. If they don't need us, we'll say so.
How We Match Your Child to a Tutor
-
1
Rig vets every tutor first
Before a tutor teaches a single student, Rig tests their 0620 syllabus knowledge and mark-scheme accuracy, then observes them teach. Most applicants don't make it.
-
2
You tell us about your child
School, year, Core or Extended, target grade, and where they're struggling. Two minutes on WhatsApp is enough for Rig to shortlist the right specialist.
-
3
The trial confirms the fit
The matched tutor teaches a free 1-hour lesson. If the fit isn't right, we rematch or part ways honestly. No payment has changed hands.
The Class Format
Classes run 1.5 hours on Zoom or Google Meet. The tutor and student share a digital whiteboard: equations, diagrams and working appear in real time, exactly as they would on paper. Past-paper questions are screen-shared and marked live against the official mark scheme. After class, your child receives the annotated notes from the session, so revision starts from their own lesson, not a generic textbook.
Sceptical that online can match in-person? That objection deserves a full answer. Here's exactly how online classes work, including how we teach the practical papers.
Why a Chemistry specialist Beats a General Science Tutor
A generalist teaches chemistry. A Chemistry specialist teaches the exam. They know that "the particles move faster" scores zero where "the particles have more kinetic energy, so more collisions per second have energy above the activation energy" scores full marks. They know Paper 6 rewards memorising 12 standard experiments. They know which Supplement statements appear on Paper 4 every other series.
That exam knowledge is the difference between a B and an A* for a student who already understands the content. It's why we don't hire all-subjects tutors, and why our notes for all 12 syllabus topics and our exam guides are written around mark schemes, not textbooks. Want the route to the top grade? Start with How to Get an A* in IGCSE Chemistry.
Questions parents ask about 1-to-1 tutoring
What does a typical 1-to-1 class look like?
1.5 hours on Zoom or Google Meet with a shared digital whiteboard. The tutor teaches the topic, works 0620 past-paper questions live with your child, and sends annotated notes after class. One tutor, one student, every class.
Do you teach both Core and Extended?
Yes. Core students (Papers 1, 3, 5/6, graded C to G) and Extended students (Papers 2, 4, 5/6, targeting A* to E) get separate lesson plans, because the syllabus content and the grade ceilings are different.
Who actually teaches my child: Rig or a Chemistry tutor?
A handpicked Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry specialist. Rig vets every tutor on syllabus knowledge and mark-scheme accuracy, observes their trial lessons, and matches each student personally.
Is homework marked between classes?
Yes. Tutors set past-paper questions after each class and mark them before the next one, with mark-scheme feedback on exactly which phrases earned or lost marks.
How much does it cost?
RM80 per hour. Classes run 1.5 hours, so RM120 per class, billed monthly. No registration fee, no packages. The first hour (the trial lesson) is free.
Can we start with one class a week?
Most students do exactly that. One 1.5-hour class a week covers the syllabus comfortably from Year 10; students starting later in Year 11 sometimes move to two.
